How to Record for Uploading

Before you upload a video, please ensure the camera app is properly prepared. Please note the following steps to prepare a recording.

Throw Setup

Stand away from your target / receiver. If you are 8th grade and above, be 15-18 yards away, if you are below 8th grade, be 15 yards away. Throw the ball on a line as hard as you can, while staying within your fundamentals. We recommend hitching into your throw.

  • Record horizontally and perpendicular to the throw:
  • Be sure to have the entirety of your body and throw in the frame
  • Start the recording 2 seconds before the throw and end after follow-through.

Apple iPhone (iOS)

Step 1: Go to the camera app.
Step 2: At the bottom, you will see a list of the types of videos or photos you can take. Select ‘SLO-MO.’
Step 3: At the top right, you will see ‘HD . 120’ which is the default option. Tap it to change to ‘HD . 240.’
Step 4: Rotate phone so it is set up to record horizontally. Press the red button to record the throw and the red button again to stop.

If you need to check and/or change any settings, select the Settings app and scroll down until you see the camera app. Select '>' to access it.

Step 4: On the top icon list, select the option with 'FHD 60' (may say another number). This will be the second from the right.
Step 5: Select 'FHD 120' or 'FHD 240'.
Step 6: Rotate phone so it is set up to record horizontally. Press the red button to record the throw and the red button again to stop.

Common Mistakes When Recording

  • Hands separate before the throw starts. The throw “starts” when the hands separate so release time can often be “inflated” to be longer than it actually is if you separate your hands early before the throw starts. Try to have both hands on the football when the recording starts and separate once you begin your throw.
  • Recorded in vertical and not horizontal. The recording needs to be done in horizontal.
  • Recorded in normal speed and not slow motion. The recording needs to be done in slow motion.
  • Recorded at 120fps and not 240fps. For best results it is required to film at 240fps.
  • The entirety of the player and the ball was not in the frame. The whole player and the ball must be in the frame throughout the entire throw. If you are too close and the ball or player goes out of the frame then the upload will fail or results will be impacted.
  • Not recorded directly to the side. The camera should be placed directly perpendicular to the player viewing the chest.
  • The recording started too late. Press record at least 1 second before the throw starts.
  • The recording was stopped too early. Record the entirety of the throw and follow through.
