How to Record Via the SpinLabAi App

Before you record your throw via the SpinLabAi, please be sure you are properly warmed up.

Throw Set Up

Stand away from your target / receiver. If you are 8th grade and above, be 15 yards away, if you are below 8th grade, be 10-12 yards away. Throw the ball on a line as hard as you can, while staying within your fundamentals.

How to Record:

  • Record horizontally and perpendicular to the throw:
  • Be sure to have the entirety of your body and throw in the frame
  • Start the recording 2 seconds before the throw and end after follow-through.

Common Mistakes When Recording

  • Hands separate before the throw starts. The throw “starts” when the hands separate so release time can often be “inflated” to be longer than it actually is if you separate your hands early before the throw starts. Try to have both hands on the football when the recording starts and separate once you begin your throw.
    • If you do happen to separate before the throw, place both hands on the ball, wait 1-3 seconds, and then start throw. Then use the trim function and trim to the when you first place the your hands on the ball.
    • Be aware of any little hand separations you may do.
  • Recorded in vertical and not horizontal. The recording needs to be done in horizontal.
  • Recorded in normal speed and not slow motion. The recording needs to be done in slow motion. If you are recording in the app, we take care of this for you.
  • Recorded at 120fps and not 240fps. For best results it is required to film at 240fps. If you are recording in the app, we take care of this for you.
  • The entirety of the player and the ball was not in the frame. The whole player and the ball must be in the frame throughout the entire throw. If you are too close and the ball or player goes out of the frame then the upload will fail or results will be impacted.
  • Not recorded directly to the side. The camera should be placed directly perpendicular to the player viewing the chest.
  • The recording started too late. Press record at least 1 second before the throw starts.
  • The recording was stopped too early. Record the entirety of the throw and follow through.
